Special Notes:

  • Note sent to students. Please read and reinforce: We ARE Canadian.  Being cold is a part of our identity.  We have four seasons:  Almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction.  Embrace the cold!  Crunchy hair?  Snotsicles? Frozen tears? Bring it on!  You MUST go outside after lunch.  No procrastinating, hiding in the  washroom, taking your time at your locker…we are on to you.  Be prepared by bringing a coat, mitts, a scarf, and the almighty Canadian toque!  Consequences for hiding indoors will involve outdoor work like shovelling snow and picking up garbage. Never fear…If it’s toooo cold to go outside, we will let you know.  Even Canadians have their limits. – Mrs. Bartlett
  •  Booking for Student Learning Conferences are well underway. If you haven’t already done so, please look at the email sent home on Thursday for the steps to book your time. The Student Learning Conferences are a blend between Student- Led Conferences and old traditional  Parent Teacher Interviews. There will be 3-4 families in the classroom with the same booked time. There will be stations in the classroom where you child can demonstrate their learning with you. You will get dedicated time with the teacher within the 20 minute time frame. Please take the time to drop-in and meet the Complimentary teachers in their teaching spaces and Phys. Ed teachers located at Centre Court.
  • Monday is our last day for collecting old cell phones. Please donate them on Monday to the Calgary Zoo to help save the Gorilla Habitat in Africa where they mine Colton a mineral used in cell phones.
  • Thank you for all the food and money donations for the Veterans Food Bank and poppy fund. We had two excellent Remembrance Day Assemblies on Friday.
  • Thanks to those parents that braved the weather on Thursday to attend the Dare to Care Parent workshop. There was great information given out by the presenter. Thanks to School Council for their Sponsorship of this great evening.
  • We would ask that parents make arrangements with their child before the end of the school day. Often we have long line ups to use the students phone. Also, recently we have had parents come to the school looking for their child. We have so much going on in then school after school and we can’t always look around for students. Please make plans ahead of time.

Special notes:

  • The office tries to be as accommodating as possible to parents, however with the demands in the busy office we are finding ourselves spending most of our time searching for students to pass on messages and arrange pick up.  If you have to sign out your child during school hours, please either come into the office and sign out your child or send a note with them so they can sign out themselves.  Office staff will no longer call students down and send them outside to meet parents picking them up. If you have a message for your child, office staff will take the message and put the students name on the message board outside of the office.  They will be called during break and lunch, office staff will not be interrupting class time for messages. Please remind your child to always check the message board. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
  • Dare to Care Parent Session – Thursday November 9th 7:00 – 9:30 pm. This is a bully proofing sessions for parents. Please call to register (403) 777-7190 to register. There is free babysitting if required. Please indicate if babysitting is needed when registering. There are limit seats so please call early.
  •  If your child is sick or not feeling well, please keep them at home until they are feeling better. Sending your child to school when they have a fever, coughing or throwing up is not a good plan. In fact they make the other children sick as well as the teachers. Last Wednesday we had 65 students at home sick and 9 teachers away. Also a good precaution is to send non-alcohol hand sanitizers with your child to school. There are hand sanitizers throughout the school as well. Please remind your child about proper coughing into the elbow technique to prevent the spread of germs.
  •  If your child rides the Calgary Transit Bus please be aware that we have no control or information regarding  their lateness in bad weather conditions. Please make sure that you have a backup plan if the busses arrive late. There are very rare occasions when a bus doesn’t show up. It will come, but late given poor road conditions. Calling the school will not be helpful. You could check the Calgary Transit website: http://www.calgarytransit.com/ or call  403-262-1000.
  •  With this cold weather please make sure your child has the proper clothing which includes items to cover their ears and hands along with a warm coat. Student go outside at lunch for 10-15 minutes unless it is colder than -20 degrees or it is snowing or raining heavily.
  • When picking up your child after school please do not park in the Bus Zone north of the school. If you park there you can receive a fine from the City Police or Calgary Transit.
  • Again, another reminder NOT to drop off your child or enter the school parking lot unless during school hours after 9:00 AM  or before 3:00 PM. This morning we had numerous parents dropping off their children in the school parking lot. Safety over Convenience Please!

  • If you haven’t paid your lunchtime fees please go online and pay them today. We are only at about 50% of this fee being paid.  Reminder that you must register for the Grade 6 noon hour supervision program online using your MYCBE account. Once you register you will be prompted to the fee payment page.  Grade 7-9 students do not register for the supervision program but if they access the cafeteria, vending machines and/or participate in lunchtime clubs and intramurals there is an lunchtime activity fee that is necessary to provide these services. Also a reminder to all students that if you wish to order a yearbook it must be done by October 31, 2017.
  • Recently we have been having issues with the garbage and recycling bins located outside at  the front of the school. On the weekends, in particular, people from the community have been using our bins to dispose of garbage and their larger recycling items. We get items such as mattresses, tires, appliances, couches thrown in our bins. It costs the school hundreds of dollar each month to empty the bins because of this misuse. We are asking you for your help and if you see anyone on the weekends using our garbage bins, please ask then to stop and possibly get a photo of their license plate and forward this to Mr. Petrowitsch at the school. Thank You.
