Friday February 16th – Teachers’  Convention – School Closed

Monday February 19th – Family Day – No School.

Special notes:

  • Just a quick note to parents that in the unlikely event that Tom Baines School or any other CBE school were to be closed for any reason, you would receive an email from the CBE  to notify you. That is another reason it is very important that you keep your information and email address up to date. The only person that can close a school for any reason is the Chief Superintendent of CBE.
  • We continue to have issues with parents dropping off their children in the school parking lot in the morning before school. This past week was especially problematic. Parents can ONLY come into the parking lot between 9:00 AM  – 3:00PM. Any other time you  MUST drop off and pick up your child on Edgepark Blvd. This is for safety reasons and the fact that my staff of 55 must get into the parking lot.

  • We are consulting with the City of Calgary Police and City of Calgary Parking authority with the possibility of issuing tickets or fines to those that do not follow the restrictions. Every child’s safety must come before convenience. Thank you to those many parents that have been following our request.
  • The Calgary Board of Education are beginning budget deliberations and are seeking your input into next year’s budget priorities. They really do want to hear from parents. Please go online and express your opinions: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/provide-your-input-on-the-cbes-budget.aspx

Thurs. Feb 8, 2018 School is OPEN today Extra Curricular Activities CANCELLED

Tom Baines School is OPEN today.  Please understand that the only person who makes the decision to close schools in the Calgary Board of Education is the Chief Superintendent. We have had many phone calls today inquiring as to why Mr. Petrowitsch has not closed the school. It is not his decision to make.  The decision to send your student to school or not is up to the parent/guardian.  If you choose to keep your student at home please call the school attendance line at  403-777-7190 ext 1.

ALL after school activities for today are CANCELLED.  This includes the Learning Commons, basketball games, Singing in the Rain Rehearsal, Invent Club, etc. Students are expected to go home immediately after school.

Forms not handed in on time may not get processed until August.

There are limited spots available and they are individual conferences so space is very limited for concerned parents. Student Learning Conferences will also take place on Wednesday February 14th form 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM however; the teachers will be calling parents for a meeting during that time only. We encourage parents to continue to regularly monitor your child’s progress utilizing Home Logic to review your child’s  assessments and teacher comments.

We are still going outside at lunch unless it is colder than -20 degrees including the wind-chill. Also if we needed to evacuate the school or have a fire drill, students must have winter clothing to protect themselves. I know it is hard with this age group for you to make sure that they are dressed properly but they need to have the clothing with them. Thank you.
